DART’s 2018 Older Americans Information and Health Fair

Come Dance with the Dancing Divas and Dudes THIS THURSDAY at DART’s 2018 Older Americans Information and Health Fair.

DART invites senior citizens to get on board and get informed at the 2018 Older Americans Information and Health Fair, Thursday, May 10, at the Centennial Building at Fair Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
DART hosts the free, annual event in partnership with the Community Council of Greater Dallas/Dallas Area Agency on Aging, the city of Dallas, and the Dallas Police Department. Media partners include NBC 5, Telemundo 39, The Dallas Morning News, Al Día, Seniorific News and Seniors Blue Book.

DART has organized what has become one of the largest senior events in North Texas for 24 years to help bring attention to the issues that affect older adults and to provide them with complimentary lunch, information, entertainment, health screenings and prizes.
Attendees are encouraged to ride public transit to the event. DART’s Green Line is the easiest way to Fair Park Station where it’s a short walk to Centennial Hall.
The 2018 theme, Engage at Every Age, emphasizes that you are never too old (or young) to take part in activities that can enrich your physical, mental and emotional well-being. The theme also celebrates the many ways in which older adults make a difference in our communities.
Learn more by visiting DART.org/seniors or call DART Community/Education Outreach at 214-749-3494.

I have the honor of being commissioned to serve on the Automated Red Light Enforcement Commission for District 7 for the City of Dallas.  Below is a short clip of my first meeting this past week.  It was pretty overwhelming, but I managed to get through the 2-hour long meeting.  It was great!  I serve for Councilman Kevin Felder and am so appreciative of this opportunity.  One fact I should pass along is that Texas is the 2nd deadliest state in the Nation for fatal accidents caused  by people running red lights.   This is one of the reason's why there are cameras installed at certain red lights throughout Dallas.
This is a short clip of my introduction.  I wish I would have practiced something to say.

You can check out the entire Automated Red Light Enforcement Commission meeting

Ujamaa: The Fourth Principle of Kwanzaa

Ujamaa (oo-JAH-mah) is one of the most powerful principles of Kwanzaa.
It focuses on cooperative economics,
which means coming together to build and maintain
our own stores, shops and other businesses
and to profit from them together.
